Abstract

Automation put simply is the control of a system without human intervention and as such for automated vehicles is the ability of a vehicle to drive itself while navigating through obstacles. Automation in vehicles has now come to a point in which driver intervention has become minimal, all made possible by the advances in fields such as image processing, fast computing, detection and prediction techniques. In this paper, we will have a brief overview of the technologies currently in place such as Vehicle platooning, Internet of Vehicles, Intelligent Transportation Systems, for Automation in Vehicles, how these advances came about and the future integration of these technologies leading to a completely driverless vehicle.
