Abstract

This Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites are exponentially used in ships, aircraft and automotive industries, because of excellent material properties like low densities, high strength, stiffness, abrasion, impact, corrosion resistances and light in weight. Machining of FRP composites by traditional machining process affecting the surface roughness, thermal cracks, fibre pull out from the composite material and wear of the cutting tool. Above problems are overcome by the Abrasive Jet Machining (AJM) process. Abrasive jet machining is a non-traditional machining process is most suitable for the composite, ceramic, soft, hard and brittle materials. Machining quality of FRP Composites can be increased by varying different machining parameters like standoff distance, nozzle diameter, type of abrasive, abrasive mass flow rate, pressure and traverse speed. This paper focusing on review of abrasive machining done for improvement of machining quality so far done by research scholars.
